This coming
Sunday, 5th October will see the start of a busy cross-country
season for Inishowen athletes as the season opens with the Donegal
juvenile even ages and masters cross-country championships at
the Finn Valley Centre, Stranorlar at 12 noon. A week later,
the action moves to Fintra in Killebegs for the County uneven
ages and novice championships. Jordanstown, Co. Antrim is the
venue for the Ulster and Northern Ireland even ages cross-country
championships on Saturday 25th October. Cross-country returns
to the Finn Valley Centre again on Sunday 2nd November for the
Donegal senior championships. The Stranorlar venue will also
host the Ulster and Northern Ireland uneven ages and novice
cross-country on Sunday 9th November. Elsewhere, Shaun Mc Laughlin
will run in the Amsterdam marathon on Sunday 19th October. The
Carndonagh based athlete has been showing very good form in
recent weeks with a personal best of 1 hour and 33 minutes in
the Waterside half marathon three weeks ago. Clive and Eilish
Bell will compete in the Snowdon mountain marathon on Sunday
26th October. A day later, a seven member team of Brigid Moohan,
Finbarr Gallagher, Seamus Mc Daid, Vinnie Hegarty, Owenie Mc
Kinney, Donal Doherty and Karol Doherty will participate in
the Dublin City marathon.
Niall Mc Gee ran 28.34 in the Loughrea 5 mile road race on Sunday
last. The race was part of a series of events marking the fortieth
anniversary of the County Galway Club.
Training
Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area takes place
every Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00
pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday
from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training
for 8-12 year old juveniles takes place every Thursday in Carndonagh
Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary
school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh
Community School from 3.20-4.45. New members are very welcome
to join.
