Sixteen athletes from Inishowen A.C. were part of the 180 strong
field of runners that took part in the fifth annual Buncrana 5km
road race on Wednesday last. Several athletes from the Club set
personal bests on what proved to be an ideal evening for distance
running. Joe Mc Kinney raced to a best of 17.31, while Willie
Mc Kinney on 17.48 and Patrick Doherty on 17.50 ensured that Inishowen
A.C. had three athletes under the 18 minute barrier. Doherty’s
effort was enough to clinch second place in a very competitive
V4 masters section, as Finbarr Gallagher finished the fast Gransha
circuit in 18.14. Owenie McKinney continues to impress on the
roads with an 18.51 effort. Vinnie Hegarty finished powerfully
in 20.10, with the ever improving Seamus Mc Daid just three seconds
behind in a lifetime best performance. Theresa Doherty was also
in the form of her life with a personal best of 20.43. Juvenile
athlete Rodger Griffin from Clonmany moved up in distance to finish
strongly in 21.30, with Culdaff athlete Eilish Bell just a second
behind. Buncrana athlete Elizabeth McDaid continues to improve
with a 22.30 clocking as Katrina Ruddy came home in 22.35. Michael
Donaghey raced to a best of 22.41, while Catherine Mc Laughlin
made a welcome return to racing in 28.01. Susan Mc Grath and Christina
Corbett finished well in 30.43 and 30.48 respectively.
