Odyssey Arena in Belfast was the setting for the Ulster &
Northern Ireland juvenile Indoor Championships on Saturday and
Sunday last. The juvenile programme was run in conjunction with
the Irish Senior indoor championships with many top Irish and
international athletes competing. Inishowen A.C. had five juveniles
in action over the 2 days. On Saturday, Nuala Bradely finished
sixth in heat 1 of the U 14 girls 60m in a time of 9.5 seconds.
The Clonmany athlete also recorded a season’s best of 5.17m
in the shot putt. Stephen Friel was first in action on Sunday
in the U 15 boys 200m. The second year Carndonagh Community School
student ran 26.5 seconds and followed this with an 8.3 second
effort in the 60m. Kieran Devlin recorded a best of 4.71m in the
U 15 boys’ long jump and 8.3 seconds in the 60m. Siofra
Fogarty performed well in the U 15 girls 60m while Kayla Farren
raced to a season’s best of 2.38.8 in the girls 800m.

Elsewhere
on Sunday last, John Collins set a personal best at the Raheny
5 mile road race in Dublin when running 29 minutes and 44 seconds.
Helena Crossan posted a time of 30.19 which helped her secure
first place in the V2 masters section.

Over
30 juvenile athletes participated in the U 13 and U 15 County
sportshall trials in Carndonagh Community School on Wednesday
last. Competitors took part in series of running, jumping and
throwing events that included 2 and 4 lap races, vertical jump,
standing long and triple jump, speed bounce and shot putt. The
County teams will be announced in early February.
Up-Coming Events
Fourteen athletes from Inishowen A.C. will compete in the ‘B’
All-Ireland cross-country championships at the Finn Valley Centre
in Stranorlar this Sunday. The event gets underway at 12 noon.
