Inishowen AC athletes ran in major international marathons in
the last seven days. Oliver McGeehan from Fahan finished the Hamburg
marathon in Germany on Sunday last in 3 hours and 20 minutes.
Conditions proved extremely difficult for the Sligo based athlete
as temperatures reached the high twenties in the latter half of
the race. McGeehan was on schedule for a sub three hour marathon
when reaching the halfway point in a comfortable 1 hour and 29
minutes. However, the soaring temperatures along with a stitch
slowed the fitness instructor to finish outside his target time
of sub 3 hours.
Meanwhile, on Monday week last, Culdaff runner Margaret O’Donnell
raced to her best time in recent years when finishing the Boston
marathon in 3 hours 48 minutes and 03 seconds. O’ Donnell,
who is based in Dublin showed good early season form over shorter
distances and reached the 13.1 mile mark in 1 hour and 49 minutes.
The famous Heartbreak Hill at just over 20 miles forced O’
Donnell to slow slightly, but she rallied well in the closing
miles to reach the finish line in Boylston Street comfortably
under the 4 hour mark.
