26-Nov-07 - Bronze Medal for Kelly at All-Ireland Cross-Country Championships

Posted Date: 27-Nov-2007 Tues

Inishowen Athletics Club athlete Caroline Kelly won a bronze team medal in the U 18 girls’ 3000m race at the AAI All-Ireland juvenile and inter-county cross-country championships at the Curragh, Co. Kildare on Sunday last. Kelly, who is a transition year student in Carndonagh Community School finished was a very commendable 52nd overall and was the third Donegal finisher. Ballyliffin based athlete Kayla Farran put in a brave performance in the U 16 girls’ 2000m race to finish 54th overall and third Donegal finisher. The County team finished eighth. In the U 16 boys’ 3000m, Stephen Friel from Urris was the fourth Donegal finisher in a 74th position, with the County securing 7th place in the team race. The dry underfoot conditions suited Friel in the closing stages as he used his finishing speed to catch several athletes in the run-in to the line.

Elsewhere, Inishowen A.C. held a very successful ‘Night at the Races’ in Simpson’s bar on Friday last. The Committee of the Club would like to express its sincere thanks to all who supported the event in any way.
Crossan Travels to World Championships.

Helena Crossan will run in the World 50 mile trail running championships in Texas on Saturday 8 December. Crossan has been a revelation in the sport of ultra-running over the last 6 months. The Carndonagh based athlete won the Connamara Ultra-marathon in April and followed this with a superb 10th place finish at the World 100k (62.2 miles) championships in Holland in early September. She will undoubtedly put her vast experience to good use when she takes on the World’s best ultra-distance runners in Texas.
