24-Nov-08 - Crossan Seventh in National Inter-County Cross-Country

DCU student Karen Crossan recorded her highest ever placing in a National championships on Sunday last, when finishing 7th in the U 23 race at the inter-counties in Tramore, Co. Waterford. The 8km event was run in conjunction with the senior women’s race where the second year physical education and biology student finished a highly 36th overall. Karen’s mother Helena made it a memorable day for the Crossan household as the County marathon record holder finished 33rd. Joe Mc Kinney made his senior début on the County team with an excellent top sixty finish, in an event that was used as a trial for the European cross-county championships in Belgium in December. In the juvenile races, Aine Bradley braved the elements and the flu to finish strongly in the U 12 girls’ 1km race. Declan Farran had a fine race in the U 14 boys 1200m by finishing in the top 45. Declan Donaghy worked hard and finished just outside the top eighty. The first year Carndonagh Community School student will have another year in this age group and races in the U 13 boys’ event at the All-Ireland uneven ages and Novice championships in Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan on Sunday 7th December.

The first round of the Donegal Sportshall athletics competition for U 10 and U 12 year olds will take place in the Rosses this Saturday 29th November at 12.00. On Sunday 7th December, Emer Redden, Declan Donaghy, Kayla Farran, Stephen Friel, Daniel Mc Laughlin and Caroline Kelly will run in the All-Ireland uneven ages cross-county championships in Ballyhaise, Co. Cavan. Joe McKinney, Karen Crossan, Brigid Moohan and Evelyn Mc Ginely will compete in the novice races. Letterkenny Athletics Club is organizing a series of 1 mile races on the Danny Mc Daid track at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny on Thursday 18th December. The event is in aid of the third world charity Goal and runs from 6.30-8.00pm. Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area takes place every Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old juveniles takes place every Thursday in Carndonagh Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45. New members are very welcome to join.
