Carndonagh based athlete Shaun Mc Laughlin recorded one of his fastest times in recent years with a highly creditable effort of 3 hours and 27 minutes and 50 seconds in the Amsterdam marathon on Sunday last. Mc Laughlin has been showing good form of late, culminating in a personal best performance in the recent Waterside half marathon in Derry. He took full advantage of the mild, overcast conditions in the Dutch capital to race under the 3 hour 30 barrier. Elsewhere, Karen Crossan finished a very respectable 28th in the women’s race at the Gerry Farnan cross-country in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Dublin marathon bound athlete Brigid Moohan ran a best of 71 minutes and 17 seconds at the Armagh 10 mile road race on Sunday week last. Three time ironman triathlete Patrick Mc Laughlin ran 71.21 at the same event.
Inishowen Athletics Club Annual General Meeting was held in Carndonagh on Thursday last. The following committee was elected: chairperson Niall Mc Gee, secretary Kathleen Furlong, treasurer Shaun Mc Laughlin, assistant treasurer Seamus McDaid, registrar Brigid Moohan, public relations team Niall Mc Gee, Katrina Ruddy, Finbarr Gallagher, child protection officer, Paddy Cox, disability officer, Karol Doherty, Club captains, Helena Crossan and Vinnie Hegarty, website officer, Dermot Sweeney, assistant, John Collins.


Up-Coming Events
Twenty two juvenile athletes from Inishowen Athletics Club will compete in the Ulster and Northern Ireland even-ages cross-country championships this Saturday 25th October at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. A day later, Culdaff duo Clive and Eilish Bell will run in the Snowdon marathon in Wales. Brigid Moohan, Vinnie Hegarty, Owenie Mc Kinney, Seamus Mc Daid, Donal Doherty, Karol Doherty and Finbarr Gallagher will compete in the Dublin city marathon on Bank Holiday Monday 27th October. The Donegal senior cross-country championships take place on Sunday 2nd November at the Finn Valley Centre at 11.00 am. A week later, on Sunday 9th November the Ulster and Northern Ireland uneven cross-county is set for the same venue with a 12.00 noon start.
