Neil Faulkner, running in the colours of Letterkenny Athletics
Club was a convincing winner of the Greencastle 5k leg of the
Feet Across the Foyle 10k on Saturday last. Faulkner’s winning
time of 17.08 was highly creditable as runners battled against
driving rain and strong wins for the duration of the event. The
Letterkenny based athlete’s winning time combined with that
of Colin Loughery, who was a narrow winner of the Magilligan 5k
in 18.10 gave the top finishers a cumulative time of 35.18. Another
Letterkenny runner, Gavin Crawford was a gallant second in Greencastle
in 17.35. This effort combined with Johnny Goldie’s second
place finish in Magilligan in 18.10 resulted in a cumulative time
of 35.45. Letterkenny made a clean sweep of the top three places
in Greencastle with national marathon medalist Marty Gormley in
third place in 17.49. Combined with Fran Mc Fadden, who raced
to third place in Magilligan in 21.15, this combined effort resulted
in a cumulative time of 39.04. Ciaran O’ Sullivan finished
fourth in Greencastle in a personal best of 19.05, while Buncrana
based Inishowen A.C. athlete Owen Mc Kinney secured a place in
the top five in 20.12. Finian Bannon reached the finish line in
20.37 as the top seven was completed by Eunan Mc Entee in 23.28.
A special word of thanks to all the officials who helped at the
event.
Meanwhile, Carndonagh athlete Karen Crossan competed in her first
race for Dublin City University at the weekend when she ran the
one mile leg of the intervarsity road relays in Maynooth. The
current Inishowen A.C. 1500m and 3000m record holder made a positive
return to racing with a time of 6.45.
