Hession and Stephen Friel made the long journey to Dungarvan Co.
Waterford to compete in the All-Ireland uneven ages cross-country
championships on Sunday last. Running in her first All-Ireland’s,
Hession finished a very commendable 81st in the girls U 11 1000m
race. In the U 15 boys 2000m, Stephen Friel clinched 59th place
in a very competitive field.
Elsewhere, on Saturday last, the North West cross-country championships
took place in Gransha in Derry. Held in near perfect conditions
on a fast undulating course, the open 6k race was won by Stephen
Duncan from Omagh Harriers in 20.10. Niall Mc Gee finished 14th
in 22.26. Buncrana athlete Seamus Mc Daid shook of the effects
of the flu to finish 51st overall in a time of 27.50. Theresa
Doherty was 7th woman overall in the open category in 29.12. Katrina
Ruddy finished 2nd in the V1 masters section in a time of 30.05.
RESULTS
NORTHWEST XC
The first round of the Donegal juvenile sportshall competition
took place in the Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar on Tuesday
11th December. There were strong performances from Dara Kelly
(Moville), Thomas Monagle (Carndonagh) and Fergus Cox (Buncrana).
Well done to Claire Friel from Urris who competed well in the
triple jump and helped the boys’ team to a high finish in
the relay.

Mickey Bradley (Bunrana Leisure Centre) is organizing his annual
Christmas day run and swim in aid of Our Lady’s hospital
for sick children in Dublin. Participants are asked to meet at
the market square in Buncrana at 10 am. The run takes place from
Bridgend to Ludden Car Park. For more details contact Mickey on

on St. Stephen’s day.
