The
Danny McDaid track at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny was
the venue on Saturday last for the second round of the County
juvenile sportshall indoor athletics competition. Twelve athletes
from Inishowen A.C. recorded strong performances in a number of
running and field events. Kieran Devlin placed first in the long
jump in the winter league which was held in conjunction with the
sportshall competition. The Clonmany based athlete recorded a
best of 5.51m.
Gransha
Park in Derry will be the venue this Saturday for the annual North
West cross-country championships hosted by City of Derry Athletics
Club. The action gets underway at 11.30 with a 1km primary school
race. The under 13 girls & boys and the under 15 girls 1500m
race will get underway at 11.45. At 12.00 noon, the under 15 boys,
under 17 girls and under 19 girls will race over 2.5km. The 6km
senior & masters’ race, which will also incorporate
the under 17 and under 19 boys race will start at 12.15. Training
for all juveniles in the Buncrana area takes place every Wednesday
at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life
and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana
Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old
juveniles takes place every Thursday in Carndonagh Community School
from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary school athletes
takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School
from 3.20-4.45. New members are very welcome to join.
