Fifteen
athletes from Inishowen A.C. competed in the second round of the
County sportshall league in Donegal Town on Saturday last. The
Club finished an excellent second place in both the U 10 boys
and girls combined section and second overall. Rosses took the
top honours in both sections. The U 10 category proved to be an
extremely close affair with the west Donegal outfit just edging
out Inishowen by a mere four points, 174 to 170. The Inishowen
U 10 team included Aishling Mc Laughlin, Niamh O’ Raw, Fergus
Cox, Darragh Kelly, and Ethan O’ Kane. The U 12 team included
Deirdre O’ Doherty, Katie Doherty, Susie Doherty, Feargal
Doherty, Alannah Furlong, Declan Donaghey, Aine Bradley, Derek
Lee Doherty, Grainne Hession and Paula Mc Laughlin. All members
participated in a range of track and field events that included
running, standing long jump, standing triple jump, medicine ball
throw, speed bounds and relays. A special word of thanks to all
the coaches and parents who travelled to the event. The County
finals for all age groups (U 9, U10, U11 & U12) will take
place this Sunday in Carndonagh Community School gym. Entry fee
is € 2. Registration is from 10.15 with the event starting
11 am and finishing at 3 pm approximately.
Helena
Crossan has been nominated for the Donegal Sports Awards which
will be held in the Mount Errigan Hotel in Letterkenny on Friday
25 January. The Carndonagh athlete has enjoyed a highly successful
year with victory in the Connamara ultra marathon in April, a
bronze medal in the World 100k in September and a second place
finish in the World 50 mile trail run in Texas in December.
This
Saturday the action moves to Gransha in Derry for the Ulster/Northern
Ireland junior, intermediate and masters’ cross-country
championships. Inishowen A.C. will have athletes competing in
all categories.
Meanwhile,
trials for the County Team for U13 and U 15 boys and girls sportshall
teams will take place on Wednesday 23rd January in Carndonagh
Community School Gym. Registration is from 6.00 pm. The event
begins at 6.30 and finishes at 9.15 pm approximately. The date
of birth is U 13 & U 15 on of after 31st August 2007. Entry
fee is € 5. All juveniles are welcome to participate. Kieran
Devlin, Siofra Fogarty, Stephen Friel, Kayla Farran, and Nuala
Bradley will compete in the Ulster & Northern Ireland juvenile
indoor championships in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Saturday
26 January. Juvenile training for all age groups in Buncrana continues
at the Leisure Centre every Wednesday from 7-8 pm. Juvenile training
for 8-12 year olds on Thursday from 5-6 pm in Carndonagh Community
School Gym. Training for juveniles aged from 12-18 takes place
every Tuesday from 4-5 pm and on Thursdays from 3.20-4.40 in Carndonagh
Community School also. Finally, training for senior athletes takes
place every Tuesday at 6.15 pm from the Buncrana Leisure Centre.
New members are welcome to come along.
