Athletics Club athlete Karen Crossan made a welcomed return to
competitive action on Saturday last with a very creditable 18th
place finish in the Irish inter-varsity cross-country championships
held in Loughrea, Co. Galway. Crossan, a first year physical education
student at Dublin City University helped her teammates secure
gold in the team event by finisher as fifth scorer. Speaking moments
after the event, Crossan’s coach Enda Fitzpatrick expressed
his delight with her first inter-varsity competition, considering
that illness curtailed much of her preparation over the past six
months.
Up-Coming Events
Nine juvenile athletes from Inishowen A.C. will be competing in
the Northern Ireland and Ulster age-group indoor championships
in Magherafelt on Saturday. Conor Collins will race over 400m,
while Aine Bradley and Paula McLaughlin will compete in the 60m

Doherty will all be in action in the 600m and the long jump. In
the middle distance events, the Club will be represented by Caroline
Kelly, Enda Mc Daid and James Griffin in the 1500m.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday 8th April, the Club will be launching the
‘Fit for Life’ initiative at 6.15 pm at the Buncrana
Leisure Centre. This is aimed at people over 18 years of age who
wish to start recreational walking/jogging on a regular basis.
As the name of the initiative suggests, its main aim is to help
participants enjoy the health benefits of regular aerobic exercise.
People of all abilities and fitness levels are very welcome to
come along and wear appropriate footwear and clothing for walking/jogging.
There will be on-going help and advice on training, nutrition
and other aspects of regular exercise.
