Kieran
Devlin from Clonmany won a sliver medal in the U 16 boys’
triple jump at the Ulster & Northern Ireland track & field
championships in Antrim Forum on Sunday last. The Carndonagh Community
School junior certificate student set a personal best of 11.16
meters and in the process qualified for the All-Ireland finals
in Tullamore on 13th July. Earlier in the day, Devlin finished
fifth in the long jump with another a lifetime best performance
of 5.11m. Kayla Farran ran 2 minutes and 40 seconds in the U 16
girls 800m and jumped to a personal best of 4.25m in the long
jump. Siofra Fogarty performed well in the U 16 girls 100m and
long jump. Urris athlete Stephen Friel was unlucky not to qualify
for the All-Irelands in the U 16 boys 200m as he finished fifth
in 26.7 seconds. This was a mere one tenth of a second away from
a top four qualifying position. Friel ran a season’s best
of 26.57 in the heats. Also in the U 16 age category, Enda Mc
Daid ran a personal best of 2.25 for 800m. Rodger Griffin ran
5.42 in the U 17 1500m. On Saturday, Nuala Bradley ran 15.37 seconds
in the U 15 girls 100m and achieved a best of 3.44m in the long
jump. David Mc Laughlin raced strongly in the heats of the U 14
boys 80m, as Conor Mc Cormick recorded bests of 3.73m in the long
jump and 3.05 in the 800m.
Helena Crossan was first in the V2 masters section in the Donegal
Town 5km road race on Friday night last. Organized by local Club
Tir Conaill A.C., the event attracted 81 runners from across the
North West and beyond. Oliver Mc Geehan ran a very promising 18.27,
just 5 weeks after the Hamburg marathon. Owenie Mc Kinney finished
inside the top thirty with 18.50.
DONEGAL TOWN 5K RESULTS
Meanwhile, seven athletes from Inishowen Athletics Club participated
in the Donegal track and field championships in Letterkenny on
Thursday last. Patrick Mathews was first in the junior 1500m in
5.30, while Rodger Griffin clinched the silver medal just one
second behind. Stephen Friel took gold in the junior 100m, as
Kayla Farran and Enda McDaid raced to victories in the 400m. Farran
also took gold in the long jump ahead of her Club mate Siofra
Fogarty. Nuala Bradley was first in the 100m with Siofra Fogarty
second.

Events
The
Fuery Insurance series continues with the Balliniska 5km this
Wednesday 11th June at 7.30 pm. The Buncrana 10km takes place
this Saturday 14th June at 6.30 pm. This is followed by the Lifford
5km on Friday 20th June at 7.15 pm, while the Ballybofey 5k is
set for Friday 27th at 7.30 pm. The Culmore Festival 5km will
take place a day later with a provisional start time of 2.00 pm.
