Karen Crossan gave another strong display on the cross-country fields of Ballyhaise on Sunday last with an excellent tenth place finish in the National novice championships. The DCU student was not alone in representing Inishowen A.C. in this race as Evelyn McGinley finished inside the top forty in her first ever national competition. Elizabeth Mc Daid completed the Inishowen representation on the County team with a very creditable finish in the top 55. Both Evelyn and Elizabeth have made rapid progress in recent months under the watchful eye of Club captain Helena Crossan. Joe McKinney was a scorer on the County team that finished 3rd overall. The Malin based runner had another brilliant display on the country by finishing 34th in the novice men’s 6km race. In the juvenile races, Emer Redden raced well in the U 11 girls’ 1000m in what was her first national competition. In the U 13 boys’ race, Declan Donaghy put in a powerful display over the 1500m course to finish in the top half of the field. Carndonagh Community School student Caroline Kelly produced a very notable performance in the U 19 girls’ race by finishing 24th overall. The second round of the Donegal Sportshall athletics competition for U 10 and U 12 year olds will take place in Letterkenny this Saturday 13th December at the Aura Leisure Centre, commencing at 12.00 noon. The second round of the winter league for 13 years olds to masters’ athletes will be run in conjunction with the sportshall competition. The events for the winter league are 60m, long jump, high jump and 60m hurdles. Letterkenny Athletics Club is organizing a series of 1 mile races on the Danny Mc Daid track at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny on Thursday 18th December. The event is in aid of the third world charity Goal and runs from 6.30-8.00pm. Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area takes place every Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old juveniles takes place every Thursday in Carndonagh Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45. New members are very welcome to join.
