Inishowen
AC athletes were in action in both Strabane and Rathmullen over
the weekend. The County Tyrone town was the venue for the annual
10 km walk and run on Saturday morning last. Helena Crossan
finished third woman overall in a 38.31, while her daughter
Karen moved up in distance and impressed with 41 minutes and
30 seconds. Peter McKinney from Buncrana was close to his season’s
best finishing in 45.33. Benny Barber made a welcomed return
to the local road circuit and completed the 6.2 mile event in
46.22.

STRABANE 10K
Elsewhere, Joe Mc Kinney was the leading Inishowen Athletics
Club finisher in the Rathmullen 5km on Saturday evening last.
The Malin resident was just five seconds short of his personal
best in 17.17. Paddy Doherty clocked an impressive 18.10, with
Carndonagh based athlete Willie Mc Kinney also comfortably under
the 19 minute mark. Buncrana athlete Seamus Mc Daid took full
advantage of the good running conditions to record 20.50.

RATHMULLEN 5K
Up-Coming Events
Donegal Grand Prix series continues with the J.G Memorial 4.2
miles road race in Cranford on Friday 11 July. The twelfth race
in the series will take place over 5km in Manorcunningham on
Tuesday 15th July. The Furey Insurance Jog in the Bog 5km is
set for Wednesday 23rd July. All races have a 7.30 pm start.
Meanwhile, Clonmany athlete Kieran Devlin will compete in the
U 16 boys’ triple jump at the All-Ireland juvenile track
& field championships in Tullamore this Sunday. The Junior
Cert student qualified for the national championships following
his second place finish at the Ulster/Northern Ireland championships
in June with a personal best jump of 11.16m.
