| Its
was a busy festive season for Inishowen A.C. members, with athletes
taking part in the Greencastle 5 miler in Co. Tyrone and the Finn
Valley 5km handicap in St Stephen’s day.
Kenyan
athlete Vinian Cheruiyot was the star attraction at Finn Valley
where over 450 took part. Cheruiyot is currently the second fastest
woman ever over 5000m on the track with a best of 14.22. While
her 16.12 winning time was somewhat short of her star-studded
run in Oslo, the large crowd was appreciative of her performance
on a cold day.
Locally, Finbarr Gallagher was the fastest finisher with 18 minutes
and 59 seconds. Eilish Bell clocked a useful 21.59 with Seamus
McDaid finishing in 22 minutes exactly. Theresa Doherty ran strongly
to record 22.20 while Galway based Moville athlete Maurice Clarke
reached the finish line on the Finn Valley track in 18.22.

Meanwhile,
Helena Crossan rounded off an outstanding year with a victory
in the V2 masters section of the Greencastle 5 mile road race.
Her time of 32.52 was enough to place her sixty first overall
out of 465 finishers. Willie McKinney had his first competitive
outing since the Dublin City marathon in October with good 35.43
effort.
