roads will lead to Culdaff this Friday the 9th May as Inishowen
Athletics Club will host the second annual 5km run/walk and juvenile
1 mile road races. This is the second race in the Donegal Grand
Prix series. The juvenile 1 mile for boys hand girls aged from
11-16 years will start at 7.30 followed by the walkers. Participants
for the 5k run will start at 7.45. Registration is in the Wee
Hall from 6.30 onwards. All finishers will receive a goody bag
and refreshments will be available in the Wee Hall from 8.30.
Entry fee is € 8 for the 5k and € 5 for the juvenile
1 mile.
The Donegal Grand Prix commenced on Sunday last with the ever
popular North West 10km road race around the streets of Letterkenny.
Glorious sunshine with temperatures in the high teens along with
a strong breeze on parts of the course presented the main challenges
for the field of over 800 runners and walkers and they stet out
on their 6.2 mile journey at 3.00 pm. Inishowen A.C. was represented
with seven athletes taking part. Margaret O’ Donnell was
the first Inishowen A.C. female finisher in a 48.24. This was
Margaret’s first race since running 3.38 in the Boston marathon
in mid April. Theresa Doherty followed closely in 48.33. Niall
Mc Gee ran 38 minutes and 26 seconds. Club captain Patrick Mc
Laughlin raced to a commendable 43.43. Donal Doherty recorded
a time of 47.13 in his first competitive outing of the season.
Noel Doherty was comfortably under the 50-minute barrier as was
Buncrana athlete Seamus Mc Daid who finished strongly in 47.44.

WEST 10K RESULTS
Meanwhile, there were numerous notable performances from Inishowen
A.C. juveniles at the Donegal Schools’ track & field
championships held on the tartan track at the Aura Leisure Complex
in Letterkenny on Thursday last. There were good performances
from Kayla Farran, Enda McDaid, Stephen Friel, Daniel Millar,
Patrick Mathews, Siofra Fogarty, Kieran Devlin, James Griffin
and Declan Farren
.
Up-Coming Events
The Culdaff 5km takes place this Friday at 7.30 pm. The Ballyshannon
5k takes place on Friday 16th May, while the Inter-Firms 5km is
set for Tuesday 20th in Letterkenny. Both races get under way
at 7.30 pm. Foyle Valley A.C. in Derry will host the their annual
Wilkie’s 5 mile run on the Letterkenny Road on Thursday
22nd May at 7.30 pm. The second race of the Furey Insurance 5km
series will take place on Wednesday 14th May at Lisnagalvin at
7.30pm.
Elsewhere, on the track, several of the Club’s juveniles
will be competing in the Ulster District Schools’ track
& field championships on Wednesday in Antrim Forum. The Donegal
juvenile Club championships for U 14-U 18 will take place this
Saturday 10th May at the Aura Leisure Complex at 12.00 noon.
