04-Dec-07 - Crossan to Compete in World Championships

Posted Date: 08-Dec-2007 Sat

Ultra distance runner Helena Crossan travels to Texas this Wednesday to represent Ireland at the World 50 mile trail running championships. Crossan is the only female participant from Ireland competing at this prestigious event. Speaking earlier in the week, Crossan said that she was ‘…very relaxed…’ in the build-up to one of the biggest races of her long and distinguished career. While the Carndonagh athlete doses not have the same volume of work completed as she had for the World 100k (62.2 miles) in September, she is very confident of a strong performance. Crossan gained her selection for this event as a result of her tenth place finish at the World 100k championships in Holland in September.

Up-Coming Events

Letterkenny A.C. will stage their annual 5k Turkey Trot this Sunday 9 December at 11.30. Six days later, on Saturday 15 December, City of Derry A.C. hosts the North West cross-country championships in Gransha, This event is run over 6k and has proved extremely popular with both club and recreational runners in recent years. Sunday 16 December will bring a close to the Club cross-country season for juvenile athletes with the National uneven ages cross-country championships taking place in Dungarvan in Co. Waterford. Grainne Hession and Stephen Friel will both be part of County teams for these championships. Juvenile training for all age groups in Buncrana continues at the Leisure Centre every Wednesday from 7-8 pm. Juvenile training for 8-12 year olds resumes this Thursday from 5-6 pm in Carndonagh Community School Gym. Training for juveniles aged from 12-18 takes place every Tuesday from 4-5 pm and on Thursdays from 3.20-4.40 in Carndonagh Community School also. New members are welcome to come along.
