Four
athletes from Inishowen Athletics Club competed in the charity
Mooathon half marathon on Sunday. Run on a challenging and hilly
course from Kilmacrenan to Downings, Carndonagh athlete Patrick
Mc Laughlin used all his strength from his Ironman triathlons
to finish in 1 hour 38 minutes and 53 seconds. Culdaff athlete
Clive Bell produced a strong performance to finish in 1.49.11.
Dublin marathon bound Shaun Mc Laughlin crossed the line in 1.50.13,
while Brigid Moohan followed her silver medal winning team performance
at the Donegal 5k a week earlier with a good 1.53.39 effort.

Meanwhile, Carndonagh based athletes John Collins and Dessie Doherty
were part of over forty thousand runners who participated in the
Great North Run half marathon in Newcastle on Sunday also. Collins,
who will be running the Amsterdam marathon on 21 October, finished
comfortably in 1.37. The ever consistent Dessie Doherty finished
in just over 2 hours.
Elsewhere, with the half marathon season in full swing, Eilish
Bell had her final race before the Amsterdam marathon later this
month with a solid 1.40.08 finish at the Dublin half marathon
in the Phoenix Park two weeks ago.

This Saturday, 6 October sees the first race of the cross-country
season with the Donegal even ages and Novice cross-country championships
taking place in Killybegs. A day later, the attention returns
to the roads, with the women’s 3k Road Race taking place
in Letterkenny @ 11.30. The County uneven ages (U 11-U19) and
masters races are set for Sunday 14th October in Milford @ 12.00.
Jordanstowns Co. Antrim will be the venue for the Ulster and Northern
Ireland even ages cross-country championships on Saturday 27th
October. Six athletes from the Club will be running in the Amsterdam
marathon on Sunday 21 October, while eight will run in the Dublin
City marathon on Monday 29 October. The action returns again to
Donegal with the County senior cross-country championships taking
place on Sunday 4 November at the Finn Valley Centre at 11.00
am. The Provincial cross-country championships conclude on Sunday
11 November with the uneven ages and novice races in the Finn
Valley centre. Juvenile training for all age groups in Buncrana
continues at the Leisure Centre every Wednesday from 7-8 pm. Juvenile
training for 7-12 year olds takes place every Thursday from 5-6
pm in Carndonagh Community School Gym. Training for juveniles
aged from 12-18 takes place every Tuesday from 4-5 pm and on Thursdays
from 3.20-4.40 in Carndonagh Community School also. New members
are welcome to come along. Finally, training for senior athletes
takes place every Tuesday at 6.30 pm from the Buncrana Leisure
Centre also.
