12-July-10 - Mc Kinney Continues Good Racing From

Malin based Joe Mc Kinney notched up another good performance in the Donegal Grand Prix on Friday evening last with a second place finish at the J.G. Memorial 4.2 mile road race in Cranford. Mc Kinney ran 22.31 for the distance, 20 seconds behind Ivan Toner from Letterkenny. Helena Crossan finished a highly creditable 14th overall in taking victory in the women’s race with 25.30.

21-June-10 - Silver Medal for Mc Gowan at Ulster Championships

Stephen Mc Gowan capped a good 8 days for Inishowen athletes at the Ulster and Northern Ireland track and field championships by winning a silver medal in the under 16 boys’ high jump with a leap of 1.65m on Sunday last.

31-May-10 - Cox in Top Form at Ulster Children’s Games

Buncrana juvenile Fergus Cox was in great form at the Ulster Children’s track & field games in Shercock on Saturday last winning a full set of medals, gold silver and bronze. A throw of 29.79m in the under 13 boys javelin meant that Cox was a convincing winner of this event.

It was an eventful week for many Inishowen athletes with events on both the road and the track. Five Inishowen athletes were in action at the Ulster Schools track & field finals on Friday and Saturday last. Kieran Devlin was the highest place finisher, taking fourth in the senior boys’ long jump with a personal best of 5.90m. Kieran also jumped 11.70m in the triple jump. Declan Donaghy battle well in the searing heat of Saturday afternoon to finish the junior boys 1500m in 5.05.

Mc Kinney And Crossan Take Honours in Culdaff 5K

Hosts Inishowen Athletics Club dominated the winners’ podium at the fourth annual Culdaff 5k and juvenile 1mile road races on Friday evening last. Joe Mc Kinney was a popular winner of the men’s race, while Helena Crossan led a clean sweep of the medals in the women’s category. Eddie Noone from Drumfries got Inishowen of to winning ways with a one second victory in the juvenile 1 mile in a personal best of 5 minutes and 22 seconds. Ryan Doherty was narrowly beaten into second place running 5.23, with Clonmany runner and cyclist Aidan Noone third in 5.47. Buncrana runner Tanya Collins was a comfortable winner of the under 13 girls’ section in 6.45, with Aoife Bell from Culdaff taking victory in the under 15 girls in 6.51.

CULDAFF 5K and JUVENILE 1 MILE ROAD RACE - FRIDAY, 14th MAY

The annual Culdaff 5km and juvenile 1 mile road races will take place this Friday 14th May. The 1 mile race for boys and girls aged from 11-19 years of age gets underway at 7.30pm. There will be age group category prizes for the first three at under 13, 15, 17 and 19, with all finishers receiving a goody bag. The 5km race for all runners and walkers will start at 7.45. There will be the usual age group category prizes. As with the junior race, all finishers will receive a goody bag for their efforts. Refreshments and prizes-giving will take place in the Wee Hall after the race. Registration is in the Wee Hall in Culdaff from 6.30pm. A record field of over 140 athletes took part last year and race organizers are hopeful of an even bigger turnout on Friday. All levels of walkers and runners are welcome to come along.

Donegal Sports Partnership to Host Sport Equality / Equity Training Course

Donegal Sports Partnership are holding a one day training course on equity training. The focus will be on sport and how these equality issues affect sport at a community level. The training course is aimed at coaches, trainers, youth workers or anyone interested. Seven Inishowen Athletics Club athletes were part of a field of over 10,000 participants in the Great Ireland 10k run in the Phoenix Park in Dublin on Sunday last. For the first time ever, the event incorporated the National 10k road championships. Inishowen had two teams competing as they enjoyed glorious sunshine around the streets of the capital. At this level the coach begins to focus on an event group specialisation, i.e. Sprints inc Hurdles, Distance inc walks, Jumps, Throws. This course is aimed at the ‘Learning to Train’ and transition to ‘Training to Compete’ phase of the Long Term Athlete Development Model.

A fantastic entry of just under 300 walkers and runners took part in the inaugural Ballyliffin Coastal 10 mile challenge on Saturday last. Tirconaill Athletics Club distance runner Paul Ward from Ballyshannon was the overall winner in a time of 58 minutes and 10 seconds. He had almost two minutes to spare over the evergreen Mary Gormely from Letterkenny who took second in 59.10. Another Letterkenny athlete, Gavin Walker was third in 60.18. Inishowen Athletics Club dominated the women’s race with Helena Crossan winning in a time of 65.23, while Teresa Doherty from Clonmany was third in 71 minutes and 57 seconds...(read more)

29-Mar-10 - Large Turnout Expected for Inaugural Ballyliffin 10 Mile Challenge

A field of several hundred walkers and runners are expected to take part in the inaugural Ballyliffin Coastal 10 mile challenge this Saturday 3rd April. The race gets under way at 2pm with registration in Trasna House from 12 noon. The starting point is at the Strand Hotel in Ballyliffin with participants then heading out the Carndonagh road. The finishing point is in the car park at the Pollan Beach. There will be a goody bag and race t-shirts for all finishers with proceeds from the event going to the Carndonagh Hospice. 15-Mar-10 - Fifth Place Finish for Crossan at Inter-Varsity Cross-Country

DCU student Karen Crossan gained her highest finishing place at the Irish University cross-country championships on Saturday last when she finished fifth in the women’s 5km race. These championships, which were held in conjunction with the All-Ireland schools finals at Cork Institute of Technology proved to be especially memorable for Crossan, as she was also the fourth scorer on the DCU team that won gold. The inaugural Ballyliffin Coastal Challenge was launched at a reception in the Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel Friday, 8th January attended by local business interests, Inishowen AC members and Carndonagh Hospice Group, the listed charity to benefit. This exciting event will be run in the confines of the village and the Isle of Doagh, moving through the walkway at Pollan Bay and arriving back at the village. Race date is April 3rd (Easter Saturday) with a 2pm start. Entries can be taken online in the coming weeks via www.visitballyliffin.com. St. Johnston based athlete James Browne continued his excellent form over the festive period with a lifetime best performance at the rescheduled 5k Turkey Trot in Letterkenny on Sunday last and a convincing 11 second win in Culdaff on Wednesday over the same distance. Browne set a personal best of 16 minutes and 25 seconds when finishing 7th overall in Letterkenny, with Buncrana based athlete Pat Gallagher also creating a lifetime best of 19.16 on what is known locally as the ‘Inter-Firms’ course. .(read more)

History was created on Sunday morning last, when Inishowen Athletics Club won two team bronze medals at the National half marathon championships in Stranorlar. Helena Crossan led the women’s, team to the podium with a strong finishing time of 1 hour 23 minutes and 51 seconds. Moville welcomed well over one hundred athletes of all ages on Saturday, 22nd August for the annual 10K & Juvenile 1 Mile races. The Mater Foundation was the outright winner on the day thanks to the wonderful generosity of those running and walking. In perfect conditions, Letterkenny AC's Pauraic McKinney was first across the line in the 10K, with Inishowen AC's Helena Crossan first of the ladies home. The Clonmany 5k road race this Friday 7th August will be the twentieth race in the Brian Mc Cormick sponsored Donegal Grand Prix series. The race is part of the annual festival and gets under way at 7.45 pm. A juvenile 1 mile road race for children aged from 10 to 16 years of age will take place at 7.30 pm. Registration will be in the Youth Club from 6.15 pm. Entry is € 10 for the 5km and € 5 for the 1 mile. All levels of runners and joggers are welcome to come along.

On Wednesday evening last, Karen Crossan ran a big personal best of 10.31 in the 3000m race of the graded meeting in Santry. This was a massive 26 seconds off the Carndonagh athlete’s previous best on the track of 10.57....(read more)

Emmet McGinty & Theresa Doherty took top honours at Wednesday evenings Cardonagh 5k. It was round 5 of the 2009 Furey Insurances 5K Series. The race was kindly sponsored by local firm Athlanfish (Declan McCarthy). A total of 87 athletes finished the race.....full report to follow

Helena Crossan had arguably her finest hour in her distance running career on Saturday morning last, when she finished third European at the Night of Flanders 100k road race in Belgium. A large field of 120 runners took part in the Buncrana 10km on Saturday evening last. Elizabeth Mc Daid was the third female finisher overall in 46.25 and clinched the top prize in the masters’ women V1 section. She was also the first local female finisher. Seven athletes from Inishowen A.C. ran in the women’s mini-marathon in Dublin last Monday week. Helena Crossan ran 38 minutes with her daughter Karen running strongly in 39 minutes. Elizabeth Mc Daid raced to 48.53, with Susan Mc Grath finishing in 57.15. Mary Mc Namara was comfortably under the one hour mark with 58.07, while Pauline Doherty and Lily Mc Gonagle impressed with 63.38 and 75 minutes respectively......(read more)

The Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar was the venue for the County Children Games for 9 to 13 year olds on Friday evening. Lee Mc Laughlin took gold in the boys under 9 300m, long jump and 60m. He rounded off a great evening with bronze in the ball throw. CULDAFF 5K & 1 MILE JUVENILE RESULTS

The 3rd Annual Culdaff 5K was won in spectacular fashion by City of Derry's Greg Roberts in a time of 15:31, setting an impressive new record for the testing course. He was followed home by Ivan Toner of Letterkenny AC (15:59) and Dominic Bonner (V45; 16:21). First lady home was Rosemary Bogle of Finn Valley (V45; 19;59) with Inishowen AC's Teresa Doherty following in a time of 20:22. Bernie Ryan (V45; City of Derry) finished third in 23:01.

The third annual Culdaff 5k and juvenile 1 mile road races takes place this Friday 15th May. There will be € 100 on offer for the first male athlete to break the course record of 16.36 set by Declan Mc Carthy in 2007. A further € 50 is up for grabs if the record breaker can get under 15 minutes and 40 seconds. Similarly, the first female athlete to break the course record of 18.14 set by Helena Crossan in 2007 will receive € 100 also with a further € 50 on offer for the first woman to break 17 minutes and 30 seconds. In addition, all finishers in the 5km will be eligible for a draw to win one of two € 100 cash spot prizes.....(read more)

Inishowen Athletics Club athletes were part of a large turnout at the North West 10km road race in Letterkenny on Sunday last. Competitors enjoyed dry conditions for the event, but strong winds on parts on the course did hinder those seeking personal best times. 3rd Annual Culdaff 5K Race - Friday, 15th May 2009

On Friday, 15th May, Inishowen Athletics Club will host its Annual 5K in Culdaff, Co. Donegal. The event has become a notable addition to the racing calendar over the last two years. This year, there will be a number of substantial cash prizes on offer, including a finishers' draw for two €100 prizes, not to mention a pay-day for the record-breakers!

Registration for all races begins at 6pm at The Wee Hall in the town centre. The Juvenile 1  Mile Race starts at 7:30pm along with the Walkers' Race. The 5K starts at 7:45pm. There's a goody-bag for every finisher. Whether you're a racer or a walker, come along and enjoy the day. All proceeds go to Concern.

On April the 15th Run Direct launched their Free (yes free) magazine delivered online to runners across Ireland. The first issue has interviews with runners, results & photos from recent races including the Great Ireland 10k, profiles of upcoming events including the warriors run, and news from around the country including the national indoors.

A large group of athletes enjoyed beautiful sunny conditions on Sunday morning last as they competed in the annual 2 mile run, 10 mile bike and 2 mile run duathlon in Buncrana. The event was organized by local man Mickey Bradley in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin.
