The City of Belfast Playing fields at Mallusk on the outskirts of Belfast was the venue for the Ulster Schools’ cross-country championships on Wednesday last. As always, the competitiveness of the races was very evident, with all runners qualifying from one of five Districts across Ulster. Four students from Carndonagh Community School competed, with Declan Donaghy the highest finisher in 27th place in the junior (under 15) boys 3.2km race. This represented a significant improvement for the second year student, as he finished 50th last year. Connie-Ann Hession raced to a very creditable finish of 35th in the under 15 girls’ 1.8km race. Her brother Conor also finished 35th in the under 17 boys 5km, with Patrick Mathews just seconds behind in 41st.
