St. Johnston based athlete James Browne continued his excellent form over the festive period with a lifetime best performance at the rescheduled 5k Turkey Trot in Letterkenny on Sunday last and a convincing 11 second win in Culdaff on Wednesday over the same distance. Browne set a personal best of 16 minutes and 25 seconds when finishing 7th overall in Letterkenny, with Buncrana based athlete Pat Gallagher also creating a lifetime best of 19.16 on what is known locally as the ‘Inter-Firms’ course.
Another Buncrana based athlete, Mickey Collins recorded a personal best of 19.37, as did Brendan Duffy, who clocked 22.01. Breege Collins finished in 24.22, with Willie John Mc Laughlin timed at 27.45. Just 4 days earlier, James Browne raced to victory in the 5k organized by the Culdaff Playgroup. Using the same course as the summer event, Browne’s winning time of 17.07 was particularly impressive considering the bitterly cold conditions. Theresa Doherty made it a clean sweep for Inishowen A.C. by taking gold in the women’s race in 21.10. Breege Collins made in a Club 1-2, finishing second in 24.43. Other Inishowen Athletics Club runners to take part included, Shane Doherty 19.11, defending champion Owenie Mc Kinney who finished in 19.58, Michael Collins 20.31, Mickey Donaghy 20.37, Peter Mc Kinney 22.14, Brendan Duffy 22.40 and Willie John Mc Laughlin 28.07. |
