Crossan notched up another significant performance on Sunday last
when finishing second in the Longford marathon in a season’s
best of 2 hours, 56 minutes and 45 seconds. The Carndonagh runner
was just 3 minutes adrift of race winner Lucy Brennan from Sligo.
Crossan, who earlier in the summer won a bronze medal at the European
100km championships in Belgium made significant inroads on Brennan’s
lead in the closing stages and was just 4 minutes of her own County
record which she set in Boston three years ago. Finbarr Gallagher
completed a good day for Inishowen A.C. in the midlands with a
finishing time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 30 seconds for the half
marathon.

Browne finished eight overall in the Brockagh 4 mile road race
on Friday evening last. The St. Johnston runner posted a swift
time of 22.31. Michael Collins raced to 28.24, while Clive Bell
finished in 30.52. Breege Collins competed well to run 32.21.

A
field of close to 100 runners and walkers completed the Moville
10k road race on Saturday week last. Pauric Mc Kinney led the
record entry home with a winning time of 32 minutes and 18 seconds.
Tyrone Mc Cullaugh finished second in 33.11, with English based
runner John Brooks third in 34.03. Helena Crossan was an equally
impressive winner of the women’s race in 38.09. Letterkenny
runner Shelia Regan finished second in 42.04, with Inishowen A.C.
runner Evelyn Mc Ginley taking third in 44.02. Other Inishowen
runners to take part included Joe Mc Kinney 34.54, first in the
masters men 40 section, James Browne 35.05, Finbarr Gallagher
38.00, Martin Mooney 38.02, Peter White 43.02, Peter Mc Kinney
44.01, first in the masters men 50 section, Elizabeth Mc Daid
45.15, Michael Collins 45.59, Clive Bell 48.16, Margaret O’
Donnell 49.48, Breege Collins 50.57, first in the masters women
40 section, Laura Gourley 51.44, Susan Mc Grath 51.45, Jenny Craig
52.26, Willie John Mc Kinney 54.05, Georgina Dixon 57.35 and Mary
Mc Namara 57.35. Michael Gillespie was an impressive winner of
the juvenile 1 mile running 6.06 and taking the under 15 title
in the process. Tanya Collins ran 7.15 to take gold in the under
13 girls section, with Debbie Collins winning the under 15 grade
in 7.07. Christopher Carter dominated the under 13 boys’
race, winning in 6.28. Kerri Gillespie won the under girls race
in 9.18.
Eilish
Bell, Theresa Doherty and Shaun Mc Laughlin successful completed
the Gale Force West challenge in Mayo last Saturday week. The
event involved kayaking in Killary Harbour, cycling, running and
hiking Croagh Patrick.

Events
The
National half marathon will take place in Stranorlar this Sunday
6th September at 11.00 am. The annual Waterside half marathon
is set for Saturday morning 12th September, with the Ballyare
10k on the same day with a starting time of 5.30pm.
