Karen
Crossan won her second bronze medal in as many weeks when she
finished third at the National under 23 track & field championships
in Tullamore in Co. Offaly on Sunday last. The Dublin based student
improved her 5k track time by some 35 seconds, completing the
12.5 lap event in 18 minutes and 58 seconds.
Meanwhile, several Inishowen A.C. juvenile members were in action
at the County Community Games finals in Milford on Sunday also.
Stephen Friel and Kayla Farren both took gold in their respective
100m finals. Aine Bradley won the 900m walking event while Connie-Anne
Hession, Conor Hession and Patrick Harkin all qualified for the
National finals in Athlone following good performances in the
6k and 7k marathon respectively.

Browne was the leading Inishowen Athletic Club finisher at the
Ballybofey 5km road race on Friday evening last. The St. Johnston
based athlete clocked a time of 17.12. Malin athlete Joe Mc Kinney
ran 17.21 with Paddy Doherty coming home in 17.41. Vinnie Hegarty
posted a time of 19.20, with Shane Doherty also running strongly
in the hot conditions to get comfortably under the 20 minute barrier.

- BALLYBOFEY 5K
Almost
90 athletes took part in the Furey Insurance/Atlanfish 5km road
race in Carndonagh on Wednesday evening last. This race was organized
jointly by Inishowen and City of Derry athletic clubs. In fact,
it was the two host clubs that took the top individual honours
with Emmett Mc Ginity proving a convincing overall winner on the
night in 15 minutes and 57 seconds. Inishowen A.C. athlete Theresa
Doherty was the leading female finisher, easily taking the title
in 20.32. Buncrana based athlete Breege Collins took gold in the
masters’ women V2 category in 24.09. Aoife Logan ran 24.38
with Susna Mc Grath and Mary Mc Namara running 26.11 and 26.57
respectively. Karol Doherty powered his way to victory in 12.16
in his newly adapted wheelchair. Declan Cadwell was Inishowen
A.C.’s leading runner on the night in 19.01. Junior athlete
Declan Donaghy ran 19.55 with Shaun Mc Laughlin just two seconds
behind. Peter Mc Kinney ran 21.12, with Michael Collins reaching
the finish line in Carndonagh’s main street in 21.18. A
word of thanks to officials and volunteers from both Inishowen
and City of Derry athletic clubs who assisted with the organization
of the event.

- CARNDONAGH 5K - RESULTS
Over
250 athletes completed the Jude Gallagher Memorial ‘Round
the Bridges’ 10 mile road race on Thursday evening last.
Finbarr Gallagher finished 17th overall in 64 minutes and 05 seconds.
Mickey Donaghy raced to a personal best when completing the Limavady
race in 72 minutes and 14 seconds.

Events
The
Rathmullen 5km road race takes place this Friday 3rd July at 7.30
pm. This is the eleventh race in the Brian Mc Cormick/Mizuno sponsored
series. The Rathmullen event will be followed by the J.G. Memorial
4.2 mile road race on Friday 10th July at 7.30 pm also. The final
race in the Furey Insurance 5km series will take place on Wednesday
22nd July on the Balliniska/Branch road course. Stephen Friel,
Declan Donaghy, Dylan Mc Cusker, Stas Drabysheuski, Kieran Devlin,
Darragh Kelly and Fergus Cox will compete in the All-Ireland juvenile
track and field championships in Tullamore, Co. Offaly on Saturday
11 and Sunday 12th July.
