It
was a busy few days for Inishowen athletes as they competed in
the Burtonport, Balliniska and Drumhalla 5k’s. The Club
was also represented at the Cookstown half marathon and the Portaferry
10 mile road race.
Theresa
Doherty confirmed her recent impressive form on the local road
scene with a personal best of 19 minutes and 35 seconds in the
Burtonport 5k on Tuesday last. St. Johnston athlete James Browne
also set a lifetime best when finishing in a time of 16.35. Helena
Crossan took the top honours in the senior women’s category
with a winning time of 17.59. It was a double success for the
Crossan household as Karen finished second in a personal best
of 18.10. Culdaff runner Eilish Bell won the masters’ women
40 section in 21.43.

- BURTONPORT 5K
Seventeen
athletes from the Inishowen A.C. took part in the final 5k of
the Furey Insurance series on the Balliniska course Wednesday
evening last. Oliver Mc Geehan was the leading Inishowen finisher
with a time of 17.43. The leading female finisher from the Club
was Theresa Doherty with 19.56. Evelyn Mc Ginley ran 21.52. She
was followed closely by Elizabeth Mc Daid on 22.02. Breege Collins
was the winner of the masters’ women 40 section in 23.41.
Triathlete Aoife Logan ran 24.49, with Jenny Craig racing to 24.55.
Susan Mc Grath ran 25.05 with Mary Mc Namara coming home in 26.20.
Other Inishowen finishers included Martin Mooney 18.00, Shane
Doherty 18.52, Shaun Mc Laughlin 19.43, Theresa Doherty 19.56,
Peter Mc Manus 20.43, Michael Collins 21.10, Seamus Mc Daid 21.16,
Brendan Duffy 23.12, and Willie John Mc Laughlin 27.40. Also on
Wednesday evening last, Finbarr Gallagher posted a time of 64
minutes and 17 seconds in a wind swept and hilly Portaferry 10
mile road race.

- BALLINESKA 5K - PHOTOS
Helena Crossan finished second
woman overall in the Cookstown half marathon on Friday evening
last. The newly crowned European 100k bronze medalist ran a time
of 1.25.09 for the hilly Co. Tyrone course. Eilish Bell ran consistently
to finish in 1.46.41, while Declan Cadwell and Mickey Donaghey
finished in 1.29.50 and 1.39.40 respectively.
Joe
Mc Kinney was the leading Inishowen finisher in the Drumhalla
5k road race in Rathmullen on Friday evening last. In the process,
the Malin based runner took gold in the masters 40 section with
a time of 17.02. James Browne ran 17.15, with Martin Mooney coming
home in 18.25. Shane Doherty recorded 18.53 for his efforts, while
Brendan Duffy ran 23.25, Aoife Boyce 25.30 and Willie John Mc
Laughlin 29.14.

- DRUMHALLA 5K
Patrick Mc Laughlin finished his
fourth Ironman triathlon in three years when he competed in Austria
in Sunday 5th July. The Carndonagh based physical therapist finished
with an overall time of 12 hours and 25 minutes. He completed
the 1.2 mile swim in 1 hour 12, the 112 bike section in 6 hours
and 14 minutes and ran the final section, a marathon (26.2 miles)
in 4 hours and 40 minutes.

Events
The seventeenth race in the Brian
Mc Cormick sponsored Donegal Grand prix series takes place this
Tuesday 28th July with the Dungloe 5km road race at 7.30pm. This
is followed by the Ramelton 5k on Friday 31st July and the Killybegs
5k on Monday 3rd August. Both start at 7.30 pm. The Clonmany 5km
is set for Friday 7th August at 7.30. The race will also incorporate
a juvenile 1 mile road race for children aged from 10 to 16 years
of age.
