The
University of Ulster campus at Coleraine was the venue for the
Ulster & Northern even ages cross-country championships on
Saturday last. Inishowen Athletics Club athletes performed admirably,
with the top performance of the day coming from the under 10 boys’
team who finished third. Strong runs by Pat Loughery with an excellent
4th place finish, along with Aaron Mc Daid 10th, Darren Donaghy
13th and Lee Mc Laughlin 46th ensured the Inishowen lads secured
a podium finish behind winners Annalee Athletics Club from Cavan.
Lauren Mc Keever raced well in the girls’ under 12 1km and
crossed the line in a very creditable 44th position. In the under
12 boys’ race, Oisin Hession was the leading Inishowen finisher
in 48th with consistent Ethan O’ Kane 53rd. The under 14
girls’ race was over a distance of 1500m and it was Urris
runner Connie-Ann Hession who was the leading Inishowen runner
in 31st place. Just three days earlier, Connie-Ann finished second
in the Donegal Schools’ cross-country championships in Buncrana.
Grainne Hession finished 46th with Tanya Collins 56th. Ronan Hegarty
and Derek Lee Doherty finished 57th and 58th respectively in the
under 14 boys 1500m, while Debbie Collins battled well in the
under 16 girls’ race to place 31st. Patrick Mathews followed
his silver medal at the Donegal Schools’ cross-country on
Wednesday last with a very good run in the under 15 boys 3k, placing
18th overall. Conor Hession braved the elements and the longer
distance of 5k in the under 18 boys race to finish 32nd.
