Key forest park was the venue on Sunday last for the All-Ireland
juvenile ‘B’ cross-country championships. Clonmany
runner Aine Bradley was first in action for Inishowen Athletics
Club when she finished 41st in the under 13 girls 1000m race.
Aine raced well in the very muddy conditions and was the sixth
scorer on the County team. Feargal Doherty battled well in the
under 15 boys 2000m race, while Declan Donaghy was part of the
County under 14 boys team that finished fifth in the 4x500m relay.
Also
on Sunday, Helena Crossan raced to victory in the masters’
women’s section of the Raheny 5 mile road race in Dublin.
Crossan finished in a time of 30 minutes and 10 seconds.

This
Sunday, 1st February, trials for under 13 and under 15 boys and
girls for the County sportshall athletics team will be held in
Carndonagh Community School at 12 noon. Athletes must be 11 years
of age on the day of the competition and under the age group dates
on or after the 1st September 2008. All eligible boys and girls
are welcome to take part even if they are not members of an athletic
club. The Ulster & Northern Ireland age group indoor championships
for athletes born in ’93, ’94, ’95, and ’96
will be held in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Saturday 7th and
Sunday 8th February. Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana
area continues this Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00
– 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues
every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics
training for 8-12 year old juveniles continues this Thursday in
Carndonagh Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training
for post-primary school athletes takes place every Thursday also
in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45.
