On Wednesday evening last, Karen Crossan ran a big personal best of 10.31 in the 3000m race of the graded meeting in Santry. This was a massive 26 seconds off the Carndonagh athlete’s previous best on the track of 10.57. The sun shown at the famous North Dublin arena as Crossan raced to a finish just 7 seconds behind Finn Valleys Teresa McGloin who has made quite the habit of winning on the Donegal Grand Prix Series over the last number of years.

On the previous evening it was Karen’s mother Helena who took victory in time of 18.28 at the Manorcunningham 5km. Helena was part of group of seventeen Inishowen AC athletes who made the short journey. Theresa Doherty made it a one two for the Inishowen women in a time of 20.10. Buncrana athlete Paddy Doherty took the V4 master category in 17.50, while leading Inishowen AC finisher was James Browne in 16.50. Other finishers included; Joe McKinney 17.32, Martin Mooney 18.24, Owen McKinney 18.51, Shane Doherty 19.04, Peter McKinney 21.02, Michael Collins 21.18
Seamus McDaid 21.27, Elizabeth cDaid 22.08, Brendan Duffy 22.33, Breege Collins 23.35, Caroline McIntyre 25.41, Jenny Craig 26.21 & Georgina Dixon 26.20.

RESULTS - MANORCUNNINGHAM 5K

On to Friday evening and cool summer conditions greeted 73 athletes for the Church Hill Fair 5k. 8 peninsula athletes (7 of which competed in Manorcunnigham) completed what is widely accepted as the toughest 5k on the Grand Prix series, never has the 16 minute barrier been broken on the run up from the Glebe Gallery. Eilish Bell made a welcome appearance to clock 24.21. Joe McKinney lead the way for Inishowen AC in time of 18.15, while Martin Mooney coped well with the hilly course to clock 19.08. Helena Crossan made the podium again in as many days as second female in a time of 19.46. Michael Collins and Brendan Duffy ran sub 24 minutes in times of 23.13 & 23.45 respectively. Duffy showed no ill effect when completing the NPCC Tour of Malin in testing conditions two days later. Other Inishowen AC athlete times were; Breege Collins 25.16 & Georgina Dixon 27.20.

Up-Coming Events

The Burtonport Festival 5km takes place this Tuesday the 21st of July. On the following evening (Wednesday) the Furey Insurances 5k series winds up on the Balliniska/Branch Road course. Then action switches to Drumhalla (Rathmullen) 5k on Friday the 24th of July, with Dungloe 5k on Tuesday the 28th July. All races start at 7.30 pm.
