A
large group of athletes enjoyed beautiful sunny conditions on
Sunday morning last as they competed in the annual 2 mile run,
10 mile bike and 2 mile run duathlon in Buncrana. The event was
organized by local man Mickey Bradley in aid of Our Lady’s
Hospital for Sick Children in Dublin.
Georgina Dixon completed the event in 1 hour 16 minutes and 01
seconds with impressive split times of 17.07 for the first 2 miles,
38.15 for the 10 mile cycle and 20.39 for the last 2 mile run.
Owenie Mc Kinney raced to a split time of 12.24 for the opening
2 miles and followed this with a 30.21 split for the 10 mile bike
section. He rounded of the final 2 miles with 14.50 to give him
an overall time of 57 minutes and 35 seconds. Patrick Mc Laughlin
covered the opening 2 miles in 12.40 and came home with an overall
time of 58.02. Breege Collins was part of a two person relay team
and impressed with 2 mile split times of 15.06 and 15.20. Others
to run the 2 mile sections as part of relay teams were Helena
Crossan with split times of 11.33 and 1145, Vinnie Hegarty 12.26
and 12.52, Mickey Donaghy 12.52 and 13.55 and James Browne 10.53
and10.55.

BUNCRANA CHARITY DUATHLON
On Easter Monday, Fahan
athlete Oliver Mc Geehan ran a lifetime best of 38 minutes and
25 seconds in the Lissadell 10km road race in Sligo. This placed
the Sligo based fitness instructor 15th overall. Finbarr Gallagher
ran the race also and finished in 38.58 for his opening 10km road
race of the season.
Several athletes from
Inishowen Athletics Club will compete in the National 10km road
race in Navan in Co. Meath this Sunday. The Donegal Grand Prix
begins with the Northwest 10km on Sunday 3rd May at 3.00p, in
Leterkenny. The Culdaff 5km and juvenile 1 mile takes place on
Friday 15th May at 7.30 pm.
Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area continues this
Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The
Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from
the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for
8-12 year old juveniles continues this Thursday in Carndonagh
Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary
school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh
Community School from 3.20-4.45.
