19-Jan-09 - Ninth Place Finish for Crossan in Cardiff

Karen Crossan finished an excellent ninth in the U 23 Celtic international cross-country race in Cardiff on Sunday last. The DCU student was representing Ulster/Northern Ireland with teams from Ireland, Scotland and Wales also competing. Crossan finished 24th overall in the 6.7k race which was held in conjunction with the senior women’s international race.
Inishowen A.C. hosted the third round of the Donegal sportshall athletics competition on Saturday last in Carndonagh Community School. Under 10 and under 12 juveniles from Letterkenny, Rosses, Milford, Tir Chonail, Lifford, and Inishowen competed in 3x1 lap and 6x1 lap relay races, speed bounces, standing long jump and the seated ball throw. A very good, fun filled competition was enjoyed by all involved. A special word of thanks to all the volunteers who assisted with the running of the competition. Declan Donaghy qualified for the County under 14 cross-country relay team when he finished strongly to clinch third place at the trials held at the Finn Valley Centre on Thursday last. Feargal Doherty performed well and finished eight in the same age group.

Up-Coming Events


On Sunday 1st February, trials for under 13 and under 15 boys and girls for the County sportshall athletics team will be held in Carndonagh Community School at 12 noon. Athletes must be 11 years of age on the day of the competition and under the age group dates on or after the 1st September 2008. All eligible boys and girls are welcome to take part even if they are not members of an athletic club. The Ulster & Northern Ireland age group indoor championships for athletes born in ’93, ’94, ’95, and ’96 will be held in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th February. Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area continues this Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old juveniles continues this Thursday in Carndonagh Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45.
