The
Brian Mc Cormick sponsored Donegal Grand Prix returns to Inishowen
this weekend with the Moville 10k run, walk and juvenile 1 mile
road races taking place this Saturday 22nd August. The 10k walk
is set for 2.30 pm with the juvenile 1 mile for children aged
from 10-16 years getting under way at 2.45. The 10k run is off
at 3.00 pm. All levels of walkers and runners are very welcome
to take part.

Johnston athlete James Browne had his first victory in the Donegal
Grand prix series when taking gold in the Aran Mor Island 5k on
Sunday afternoon last. Martin Mooney finished fifth, while Helena
Crossan continued her winning form on the local circuit with victory
in the women’s section. Susan Mc Grath recovered well from
her efforts at the Danny Mc Daid 15k a week earlier to finish
fifth in the woman’s category.

Meanwhile, Helena Crossan was second senior woman at the Milford
5km on Friday evening last. The Carndonagh based runner finished
in 18.21.Breege Collins was once again on the podium in the masters
women 40 section, taking gold in 23.17. Georgina Dixon raced to
26.39. Joe Mc Kinney was a convincing winner of the masters men
40 section in 16.41, with Mickey Collins coming home in 21.14.
The race was won by Illies Golden Glove boxer Tyrone Mc Cullagh
in 15.44. Finbarr Gallagher continued his summer season of 10
mile races with a 63 minutes and 33 seconds effort at Ballyclare
on Saturday last.

City
of Derry will be holding the Buncrana 1 mile road races this Tuesday
18th August at the Buncrana Leisure Centre. Registration is from
6.30 pm. Dessie’s 10k run will take place on Tuesday 25th
August, while the National half marathon will take place in Stranorlar
on Sunday 6th September at 11.00 am. The annual Waterside half
marathon is set for Saturday 12th September.
