Carndonagh athlete Karen Crossan finished a highly credited third
place in the senior women’s 1500m at the Ulster & Northern
Ireland track and field championships in Antrim Forum on Saturday
last. The DCU student ran a lifetime best of 4 minutes and 58
seconds for the three and three lap event. Christopher Kelly competed
in the under 18 boys’ javelin, but was forced to withdraw
due to a back injury after the first round.
A
large field of 120 runners took part in the Buncrana 10km on Saturday
evening last. Elizabeth Mc Daid was the third female finisher
overall in 46.25 and clinched the top prize in the masters’
women V1 section. She was also the first local female finisher.
James Browne impressed with a finishing time of 36.03 and was
the first Inishowen runner to cross the line. Joe Mc Kinney clocked
37 minutes exactly, with Paddy Doherty racing to 37.37. Finbarr
Gallagher finished in 38.04. Other Inishowen finishers included
newcomer Declan Cadwell who impressed with a best of 39.40, Owenie
Mc Kinney 40.00, Gerry Doyle 40.40, Vinnie Hegarty 41.05, Shane
Doherty 42.00, Sean Doherty 46.25, Michael Collins, Breege Collins,
and Georgina Dixon.

Mooney raced to a personal best time of 17.46 at the Culmore 5km
on Wednesday evening last. Finbarr Gallagher was just a second
behind on 17.47 with Theresa Doherty running 20.06. Helena Crossan
was second woman overall in the Enniskillen 10k last Saturday
week in 38.04 with Eilish Bell running 46.26. Bell also posted
a time of 1 hour and 46 minutes in the Newry half marathon 12
days earlier.

Events
The
Ulster and Northern Ireland age group track & field championships
take place this Saturday and Sunday in Antrim Forum. The Brian
Mc Cormick Donegal Grand Prix continues with the Lifford 5k this
Friday at 7.30 pm. The Furey Insurance 5km series continues with
the Carndonagh 5k on Wednesday 24th June at 7.30 pm also.
