The third annual Culdaff 5k and juvenile 1 mile road races takes
place this Friday 15th May. There will be € 100 on offer
for the first male athlete to break the course record of 16.36
set by Declan Mc Carthy in 2007. A further € 50 is up for
grabs if the record breaker can get under 15 minutes and 40 seconds.
Similarly, the first female athlete to break the course record
of 18.14 set by Helena Crossan in 2007 will receive € 100
also with a further € 50 on offer for the first woman to
break 17 minutes and 30 seconds. In addition, all finishers in
the 5km will be eligible for a draw to win one of two € 100
cash spot prizes. There will be the usual prizes for all age group
categories in both the 5km and juvenile 1 mile, with all finishers
receiving a goody bag for their efforts. Children must be aged
between 11 and 16 years of age to participate in the 1 mile road
race with medals awarded to the first three boys and girls in
the under 13, 15 and 17 age categories. The action gets underway
at 7.30 pm with the juvenile 1 mile, while the 5km is set for
7.45. All levels of walkers, joggers and runners are very welcome
to take part. Registration is from 6.00 pm in the Hall in Culdaff.
Light refreshments will be served in the Wee Hall from 8.30pm
onwards.

Community School transition year student Kieran Devlin struck
gold at the Ulster District Schools’ track and field championships
on Wednesday last when he recorded a personal best of 12.09m in
the intermediate boys’ triple jump. The Clonmany athlete
will now compete in the Ulster Schools Finals in Antrim Forum
this Saturday.

athlete Joe Mc Kinney raced to a personal best of 16 minutes and
44 seconds when taking gold in the V2 masters section in the Ballyshannon
5k on Friday night last. James Browne took gold in the over 35
section with a personal best also of 17.14. Oliver Mc Geehan impressed
with 17.45, while Patrick Doherty from Buncrana clinched gold
in the V4 masters section with 17.59. Helena Crossan completed
a winning evening for Inishowen A.C. athletes by taking gold in
the senior women’s section in 18.18. Culdaff runner Martin
Mooney came home in 18.43, with Owenie Mc Kinney on 19.03.
Meanwhile, at the Lisnagelvin 5k on Wednesday evening last, Finbarr
Gallagher clinched gold in the V2 masters section in 18.17. Eilish
Bell completed an Inishowen A.C. double by taking gold in the
women’s section in 22.24. Aoife Bell ran a very promising
25 minutes and 32 seconds Vinney Hegarty raced to 19.38, with
Theresa Doherty coming home in 21 minutes. Peter Mc Kinney raced
to 21.16 with Seamus Mc Daid finishing in 21.55. Mickey Donaghey
completed the 3 lap circuit in 22.22.
