It
was a busy week for Inishowen A.C. athletes with 18 runners from
the Club taking part in the Danny Mc Daid 15k road on Sunday last
and a record entry of 70 athletes at the Clonmany 5km on Friday
evening. For good measure, four athletes from Inishowen raced
in the Killybegs 5k on Bank Holiday Monday.
Helena
Crossan was third female finisher overall in the Danny Mc Daid
15k road race on Sunday morning last. The ultra-distance running
specialist paced herself to a quick time of 58 minutes and 45
seconds for the 9.2 mile Letterkenny circuit. This performance
set the tone for a highly impressive day of running with numerous
personal bests throughout the field. Buncrana runner Evelyn Mc
Ginley recorded a very creditable 71 minutes and 34 seconds for
her first attempt at this distance. Other debutants to race strongly
were Elizabeth Mc Daid on 73.35, (first in the masters women 35
section), Breege Collins 80.44, Susan Mc Grath 83.30, Mary Mc
Namara 94.07 and Patricia Barnett 95.53. Joe Mc Kinney was the
leading finisher from Inishowen A.C. and collected the first prize
in the masters men 40 section with a useful 54.28. St. Johnston
runner James Browne posted 54.58, with Patrick Doherty second
in the masters men 50 section in 58.06. Finbarr Gallagher comfortably
broke the hour mark with 58.39. Culdaff runner Martin Mooney finished
in 59.24, with Declan Cadwell running 60.32, Owenie Mc Kinney
63.14, Mickey Donaghey 63.44, Vinnie Hegarty 63.59, Patrick Mc
Laughlin 64.01 and Seamus Mc Daid 71.09.

Local
boxer Tyrone Mc Cullagh raced to his second victory in the Donegal
Grand Prix this summer with a stunning run in the Clonmany 5km
on Friday last. The young Illies Golden Glove boxer was just as
impressive on the roads as he is in the ring, winning comfortably
in 15 minutes and 45 seconds. Kevin Carlin from City of Derry
was second in 15.57, with last year’s winner Pauric O’
Donnell from Letterkenny A.C. third in 16.15. It was an Inishowen
one-two in the women’s race with Helena Crossan taking gold
in 18.23, while Connie-Ann Hession finished second in 23.53. Teresa
Bradley was just 4 seconds behind in third. Other Inishowen A.C.
runners to finish included Georgina Dixon, 25.41, Elaine Mc Andrew
27.00, and Patricia Barnett 27.45. Karol Doherty was the first
finisher, winning the wheelchair section in a fast 12.37. Joe
Mc Kinney was the leading runner in the men’s team in 16.35.
James Browne followed closely in 16.47, with Martin Mooney finishing
fifth senior man overall in 18.01. Owenie Mc Kinney impressed
with 18.57, while junior athlete Patrick Matthews set a new lifetime
best of 19.21. Conor Hession ran 20.37, Peter Mc Kinney 20.40,
Brendan Duffy 22.12, and Willie John Mc Laughlin 27.00. Declan
Donaghy was a convincing winner of the boys under 13 one mile
race in a best of 5.16. Derek Lee Doherty was second in 5.47.
Grainne Hession won the under 13 girls’ section in 6.08.

Helena
Crossan was the first female finisher in the Killybegs 5k on Bank
Holiday Monday. James Browne ran 17.28 while there were strong
runs from Martin Mooney and Owenie Mc Kinney also.
The
Milford 5k takes place on Friday 21st August at 7.30 pm. The Moville
10k is set for Saturday 22nd August. The 10k walk gets underway
at 2.30pm. The juvenile 1 mile for children aged from 10-16 years
will take place at 2.45pm with the 10 road race off at 3pm.
