10-Aug-09 - Busy Week on Local Road Circuit

Posted Date: 13-Aug-2009 Thurs

It was a busy week for Inishowen A.C. athletes with 18 runners from the Club taking part in the Danny Mc Daid 15k road on Sunday last and a record entry of 70 athletes at the Clonmany 5km on Friday evening. For good measure, four athletes from Inishowen raced in the Killybegs 5k on Bank Holiday Monday.

Helena Crossan was third female finisher overall in the Danny Mc Daid 15k road race on Sunday morning last. The ultra-distance running specialist paced herself to a quick time of 58 minutes and 45 seconds for the 9.2 mile Letterkenny circuit. This performance set the tone for a highly impressive day of running with numerous personal bests throughout the field. Buncrana runner Evelyn Mc Ginley recorded a very creditable 71 minutes and 34 seconds for her first attempt at this distance. Other debutants to race strongly were Elizabeth Mc Daid on 73.35, (first in the masters women 35 section), Breege Collins 80.44, Susan Mc Grath 83.30, Mary Mc Namara 94.07 and Patricia Barnett 95.53. Joe Mc Kinney was the leading finisher from Inishowen A.C. and collected the first prize in the masters men 40 section with a useful 54.28. St. Johnston runner James Browne posted 54.58, with Patrick Doherty second in the masters men 50 section in 58.06. Finbarr Gallagher comfortably broke the hour mark with 58.39. Kevin Carlin from City of Derry was second in 15.57, with last year’s winner Pauric O’ Donnell from Letterkenny A.C. third in 16.15. It was an Inishowen one-two in the women’s race with Helena Crossan taking gold in 18.23, while Connie-Ann Hession finished second in 23.53. Teresa Bradley was just 4 seconds behind in third. Other Inishowen A.C. runners to finish included Georgina Dixon, 25.41, Elaine Mc Andrew 27.00, and Patricia Barnett 27.45.
