Aine
Bradley from Clonmany and David Mc Laughlin from Rashenny will
be competing in the UK sportshall finals in Birmingham next month
following their impressive performances that propelled their under
13 County teams to victory in the Ulster finals on Thursday last.
Unfortunately, the girls under 15 team which included Kayla Farran
and Nuala Bradley missed out on qualification as did Stephen Friel
who was on the boys’ team.
Karen
Crossan raced to an excellent 12th place finish at the Irish University
cross-country championships at the Jordanstown campus on Saturday
last. The second year Dublin City University physical education
and biology student was fifth scorer on her team which won the
overall title. Crossan ran the opening 2km conservatively and
worked her way through the field to finish the 5k race comfortably
inside the top 15 and guarantee herself selection for the international
university race in Cardiff on the 28th March.
The
magnificent indoor arena in Magherafelt will be the venue this
Saturday for the second round of the Ulster and Northern Ireland
age group indoor track and field championships. Ethan O’
Kane will compete in the under 12 boys 60m and long jump, while
Darragh Kelly goes in the high jump, long jump and 60m. In the
under 13 girls’ competition, Aine Bradley will compete in
the 60m, 600m, and long jump. Patrick Mathews will race in the
under 16 boys 1500m. Ballyliffin athlete and bronze medalist in
last year’s 400m, Conor Collins will attempt a sprint double
over 200 and 400m in the under 19 age group.
The
first major road race of the season for many of the Club’s
senior athletes will be at Omagh half marathon on Saturday 21st
March. The annual Club presentation night for post-primary and
senior athletes will take place on Friday 13th March at 8.00 pm
in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana. Training for all juveniles
in the Buncrana area continues this Wednesday at the Leisure Centre
from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training
continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30
pm. Training for post-primary school athletes takes place every
Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45.
