Inishowen
Athletics Club athletes were part of a large turnout at the North
West 10km road race in Letterkenny on Sunday last. Competitors
enjoyed dry conditions for the event, but strong winds on parts
on the course did hinder those seeking personal best times. Nevertheless,
Malin athlete Joe Mc Kinney raced to a lifetime best of just over
36 minutes, with James Browne just seconds behind. Other Inishowen
A.C. athletes to participate included Finbarr Gallagher, Patrick
Doherty, Vinnie Hegarty, Susan Mc Grath, Mary Mc Namara, Seamus
Mc Daid, Elizabeth Mc Daid, Patricia Barnett, Margaret O’
Donnell, Peter Mc Kinney, Sean Doherty, Katrina Ruddy, Pauline
Doherty, Mickey Donaghy and Martin Mooney. Full details of times
will be in next week’s report.
Also
on Sunday, Owenie Mc Kinney continued his impressive performances
at the annual Slieve Snaght challenge, when he finished second
in the team section. The event consisted of a 20 mile cycle followed
by an assent and descent of Slieve Snaght. Karen Crossan finished
a very creditable sixth in the 3000m at the Irish University track
& field championships in Limerick on Saturday week last. The
DCU student clocked a season’s best of 11 minutes and was
part of the college’s team that took the over-all intervarsity
team title.
