The Clonmany 5k road race this Friday 7th August will be the twentieth race in the Brian Mc Cormick sponsored Donegal Grand Prix series. The race is part of the annual festival and gets under way at 7.45 pm. A juvenile 1 mile road race for children aged from 10 to 16 years of age will take place at 7.30 pm. Registration will be in the Youth Club from 6.15 pm. Entry is € 10 for the 5km and € 5 for the 1 mile. All levels of runners and joggers are welcome to come along.

The inaugural Malin 5k and 1 mile road races took place in ideal weather conditions on Sunday afternoon last. Eleven athletes toed the line for the 5k, which was won convincingly by Inishowen A.C. athlete Joe Mc Kinney in a time of 17 minutes and 17 seconds. City of Derry athlete Philip Donaghy was second in 18.30, with Carndonagh runner Hugh Doherty posting 20.53 for the 1 lap 5k circuit. Other finishers included Eamon Duffy 22.31, Michael Collins 23.08, Breege Collins 24.00, Laura Gourley 24.58, Andy Mc Laughlin 25.02, Susan Mc Grath 25.43, Clare Passmore 26.02 and Wendy Gourley 32.20. Finn Valley made it a one-two in the Malin mile with Gerard Bogle taking gold in 4 minutes and 44 seconds, just a second ahead of teammate Frank Chaney. Joe Mc Kinney recovered well from his 5k exploits just 3 hours earlier and finished third in 4.53.

Meanwhile, Theresa Doherty was once again the leading female finisher at the Jog in the Bog 5k road race on Wednesday evening last. The former Ulster Schools’ cross-country champion impressed with a winning time of 19.55. Evelyn Mc Ginley raced to 21.50, with Elizabeth Mc Daid following closely on 21.58. Shaun ‘Moore’ Doherty set a new personal best with 20.42. Finbarr Gallagher was the leading Inishowen A.C. finisher on the night with 18.06. Shane Doherty recorded 18.37, with Seamus Mc Daid and Peter Mc Kinney finishing in 20.49 and 20.54 respectively.

RESULTS - JOG IN THE BOG 5K , RAMELTON 5K & KILLYBEGS 5K

Helena Crossan was first woman overall in the Dungloe 5k on Tuesday evening last. The Carndonagh runner finished in 18.23, with Karen Crossan clinching third spot in 18.36. Moville runner Jenny Craig ran 24.20. James Browne ran 16.47, while Joe Mc Kinney took first in the masters men over 40 section in 16.52. Martin Mooney ran 17.57. Joe Mc Kinney took gold for the second time within a week in the masters’ men section when running 17.15 in the Ramelton 5k on Friday last. James Browne was the top male finisher in the masters’ men over 35 section in 17.23. Paddy Doherty took gold in the masters’ men 50 section in 18.41, with Martin Mooney on 18.50. Helena Crossan was again the leading female finisher on 18.56, while Jenny Craig ran 25.50.

Up-Coming Events.

The Clonmany 5k and juvenile 1 mile road race is set for this Friday 7th August at 7.30pm. The Danny Mc Daid 15k road race takes place on Sunday 9th August at 11.00 am.
