Inishowen athletes Helena Crossan and Karol Doherty were recognized for their achievements on Friday night last at the Donegal Sports Star Awards. Ultra distance running star Helena Crossan collected the Brendan Mc Daid Memorial Special Achievement award in recognition of her success at the World 100k championships and the World 50 mile trail run. Karol Doherty won the para-athlete award for his achievements on the road at a range of distances from 5km to the marathon.

Three athletes from Inishowen A.C. competed in the Ulster & Northern Ireland senior cross-country championships in Gransha on Saturday last. Helena Crossan delivered a top performance to finish 8th overall in 24.02 for the 6km course. Bridig Moohan worked through the wet, muddy conditions to clinch 23rd in 26.59. Elizabeth Mc Daid braved the adverse conditions to finish strongly in 29th position in 28.05. Evelyn Mc Ginley raced well but was forced to withdraw at the midway point due to flu.

Over 50 juveniles participated in the County trials for under 13 and under 15 boys and girls in Carndonagh Community School on Sunday last. They competed in the 2 and 4 lap races as well as the standing triple jump, standing long jump, shot putt, vertical jump and speed bounce. The teams to represent Donegal will be announced later in the week.

Up-Coming Events

David Mc Laughlin, Declan Farran, Declan Donaghy, and Feargal Doherty will competed in the Ulster and Northern Ireland indoor age group championships in the Odyssey Arena in Belfast this Saturday. On Sunday, Stephen Friel, Kieran Devlin, Kayla Farran, Siofra Fogarty and Patrick Mathews will compete in the 93 and 94 age groups.

Training for all juveniles in the Buncrana area continues this Wednesday at the Leisure Centre from 7.00 – 8.00 pm. The Fit for Life and senior training continues every Tuesday from the Buncrana Leisure Centre at 6.30 pm. Athletics training for 8-12 year old juveniles continues this Thursday in Carndonagh Community School from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. Training for post-primary school athletes takes place every Thursday also in Carndonagh Community School from 3.20-4.45.
