Clonmany athlete Kieran Devlin finished a highly creditable sixth in the under 17 boys’ triple jump at the All-Ireland Schools’ track and field finals in Tullamore in Co. Offaly on Saturday last. The transition year student recorded a best of 11.56m.

Twenty four Inishowen Athletics Club athletes participated in the Furey Insurance 5k road race in Buncrana on Wednesday evening last. Helena Crossan set a new club record when running 17.50, just two days after winning the women’s race at the Newry marathon in 3 hours 04 minutes and 10 seconds. Crossan was third woman to finish in Buncrana behind Theresa Mc Gloin of Finn Valley A.C. who won in 17.13. Karol Doherty impressed with victory in the wheelchair section with 17 minutes and 40 seconds. Malin athlete Joe Mc Kinney was the first Inishowen finisher when recording a personal best of 16.26 to finish sixth overall behind three time race winner Pauric Mc Kinney of Letterkenny A.C. in 15.16. James Browne ran a lifetime best of 16.54 to finish 11th, while Paddy Doherty was a convincing winner of the masters men 50 section in 17.20, a personal best also. Theresa Doherty raced to her best time this season finishing in 20.11. Other Inishowen A.C. athletes to participate included Finbarr Gallagher, 17.39, Martin Mooney, 17.57 (personal best), Gerard Doyle 18.53, Vinney Hegarty 18.57, Declan Cadwell, 19.16, Mickey Donaghy 19.29, Shane Doherty 19.30, Michael Collins 20.21, Peter Mc Kinney 20.25, Seamus Mc Daid 20.41, Elizabeth Mc Daid 21.26, Bridgeen Collins, 23.34 (personal best), Georgina Dixon, 24.59, Susan Mc Grath, 25.31, Patricia Barnett 27.32, Pauline Doherty 28.01, Eileen Hegarty and Claire Hegarty, both 28.35.

Up-Coming Events


The sixth race in the Brian Mc Cormick grand prix road series is the Donegal Town 5k, which takes place this Friday 5th June at 7.30 pm. This is followed by the Buncrana 10k on Saturday 13th June at 6.30 pm. The Ulster Children’s Games for 9 to 13 year olds will take place this Sunday 7th June at the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny starting at 10.00 am. Christopher Kelly and Karen Crossan will compete in the Ulster and Northern Ireland junior and senior track and field championships in Antrim Forum on Saturday 13th June. The Ulster and Northern Ireland age group championships take pace on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June in Antrim Forum also. The fourth race in the Furey Insurance 5km series takes place on Wednesday 10th June in Culmore. This is followed by the Carndonagh 5k on Wednesday 24th June. Both races start at 7.30 pm.
